This week has been quick. I can't remember what happened on what day,
course that's been happening a lot here. I guess I'll just piece
together the key moments.
I've been eating a lot with members and trying a variety of foods. A
super popular food here is called a Döner. I had one my first week but
the quality depends on where you get them, so I ate a REAL one last
week and it was heavenly, but otherwise I'm still not too impressed
with the food. Although we had tacos at a members home and we ate with
a previous Elder who served here a few years ago then came back to
visit with his wife. Elder Robinson was his name I believe.
HOLY MOTHER OF ABRAHAM I ALMOST FORGOT,
we had exchanges.
Several times a transfer whenever the district leader schedules it we
have companion exchanges. (Where you swap comps for a day) We did a
bunch in the MTC but those were for all sorts of weird reasons. Last
week I got to exchange with Elder Blau and we did some paperwork and
stuff to get my visa so I don't get deported, it was fun and we hit a
point where I had been out for three weeks and he had three weeks Til
he goes home haha. He's a smart guy and I've learned a lot from him
plus he's always babbling about this girl he's crazy for and he's
gonna marry when he gets home. We tease him a bit too much cuz we'll
probably all be that girl crazy someday.
I got a chance this week to exchange with Elder Barker (Blau's comp)
and it was a bit more mission focused. He's this lanky 6'3" guy who is
probably one of the best missionaries we have. He's really funny and
super wacky but He loves people so when he's working that's what he's
best at. So, story time With Elder Barker.
We were on our way to an appointment and as we waited for our Bahn he
said "I'll follow you, find somebody on the train and just start
talking." So I sat next to this guy who turned out to be the best
contact I've ever had. His name was Jack, his mom is a Texan
(weird coincidence right? Wrong! there are no coincidences.) and he's
studying at a university in Frankfurt for music cuz he's been playing
violin for 16 years. We casually got to know him at first and just
like always the conversation turned to the gospel. So we shared the
Christmas video and a bit about our message, he was almost in tears.
We got his contact info and promised to teach him more later. We ended
up missing our station and had to go back because we were so involved.
It was probably the coolest moment I've seen so far.
Then we had an appointment, got lost in a village and knocked a bunch
of doors, which was actually the first time I've gone door to door
here.
Another cool story(yeah you get 2 today woohoo) Elder Davis and I had
an appointment with an inactive fellow and his wife(she isn't a
member) they were probably some of the best people I've met here. They
were so dang friendly and they had a dog who is now my best friend. We
ate a bit and spoke about all sorts of stuff mission related and
what's going on in their lives. We discovered He was born into the
church but never really developed a firm testimony, he loves the
principles the gospel has taught him but he doesn't really believe in
it anymore.
So then the cool part happened. It was a subtle build up and I don't
think Elder Davis noticed at all. But slowly from the beginning I was
speaking more and more Deutsche. At the end when we shared the
Christmas video and a short message I was actually using words I
didn't know the English translation for, and they were actually the
right words! In addition to that after we said a prayer, they gave us
some sugar to take home and as we talked I was struggling to form full
sentence. Almost like I only had the words for that one moment. Weird
right?
Other than that life goes on. I'm seeing more about German culture
(when we get out of Offenbach and actually into Germany) and lot
around the Weihnachtsmarkts and stuff people do for Christmas here.
We've been invited to a few homes over Christmas so we'll have a nice
holiday. A cool thing a member showed us were these little Räuschen
Mensch. I'm sure you can see them on google, but they're these little
wooden men that smoke.(everybody smokes here, even the nutcrackers
haha) I'll probably buy one as a souvenir.
Yup, that's been my week. Wir haben viel Quatsch zu machen, and a lot
of People to talk to
I love hearing from you and hope you have a beautiful week.
You're beloved maniac -Elder Füller
And for photos....
.Here is Elder Barker demonstrating how to properly use a chair
Here is a chubby little friar in a stain glass bar window we pass by everyday. I've decided to call him FriedrichHere is the Weihnachtsmarkt in Offenbach
I think this picture is kinda poetic cuz the first sentence I knew in German was"ich habe eine Apfel" (I have an Apple) and now I do....In Germany
