Wk 12 DTF Mar 13

Daniel has little time to write emails.  Or maybe it's that there are too many to write to.  Either way, he drops a line and lets us know he is still alive and kicking.  It is good to know he is working so hard.  They have to walk everywhere they go.  This takes extra time.  Sometimes the cafes they get internet in have power shortages or outages.  Either way, these conveniences are definitely things that are not a given and should never be taken for granted. They also do not have time during the week to do their laundry except on Preparation Day.  They need to wash their clothes by hand.  I tried to slip this in casually before he left.  I am sure the reality has set in by now.

Please try sending a letter snail mail.  They really are a third world country and though they have some modern conveniences, most are decades behind.

Postal mail to your missionary should be addressed to:
(Your Missionary’s Name)
Kenya Nairobi Mission,
P. O. Box 46162-00100,
Nairobi, Kenya

There is also something called Pouch Mail and is sent all together from SLC.  Thing is, it can only be a single sheet of paper folded in threes like for a business size envelope. It needs to be taped shut wth 2 pcs of tape on the long edge.  Affix postage in right corner with name in the middle like the paper is the envelope.
Pretty specific, but it is because they have many letters going at once for all missionaries in the area.

Dan would love some snail mail because it seems he is having a bit of a hard time responding to us all.  But I know he loves hearing from you.  Please continue supporting him.  Everything is great when it is new.  A few months down the road, it won't be new anymore.  That continued communication is paramount!

Elder Holland was recently in Kenya and said Africa is a mission for a man.  Well Daniel at 18yrs of age, is certainly going to be before it's all over with.  He is learning so much and the language is an on the job training as he is immersed in it with a Kenyan Companion.

Daniel never met a stranger and he is happy to be about the work.  He knows Ben has been out 1/2 a year already.  Time is rolling swiftly by, just like a river.

I got to send him a package for his 19th birthday on May 30.  It is such a blessing because due to political elections there, mail is very slow or stopped entirely.  There is another missionary momma who knows a man traveling there on business and happy to fill a suitcase of items to take to the mission office.  Daniel broke his camera (or it got stolen) and we are relieved to be able to send him another from here since they cost twice as much there.

I also added some games since they need to be inside at 8pm and may get kinda stir crazy.  I found some checkerboard fabric and sewed a backing to make it stiff but able to roll up.  Also chess and checker pieces, an Uno game and a rubix cube, which he said he enjoyed in the MTC.  A yo-yo and Skittles for him and his comp.  Also a photo album with some family/friend picts that he didn't bring with him.  Flash drives full of good music and talks are also a treasure for missionaries.  I am really hoping he likes his scripture bag that goes around the waste.  In South America, they wear these because thieves grab the shoulder straps.  This one should be more comfortable for walking.

I kick myself for not adding probiotics and supplements because they get parasites there all the time. Guardians Angels are working overtime and those without much faith that I talk to cannot believe we would do such a thing as to send our son so far away where there are such differences in culture and so many unknowns.  Well they do not understand that he is on the Lord's errand and he will be protected.  But they are right...it is crazy and without my faith, I could not do it, neither could Russ.

Elder Cova is in Dan's district.

Elder Cova, Elder Fuller and Obama the camel, yes that was his name.
