I wish he would have turned around!! |
So happy on P-days exploring amazing sites! |
Schönen guten Morgen,
This week was lots of travel and lots of meetings.
We also had our first zone conference with our new mission president
and our first split in almost two months. I love my companion, but
when you're in a district of only sister missionaries, not seeing
other Elders in so long is dangerous haha.
We got up early on Monday morning to meet with the district and head
out to Düsseldorf for the conference. We met a fellow from Israel on
the train and had a interesting discussion about Jewish culture. I've
met people from all over the world but he was the first out of Israel.
Once we got to the main city station we went to catch a bus, after
about 5 minutes of waiting a swarm of 15 missionaries walk over and
join the 6 of us as we all pack into the conveniently sized bus. The
few non-missionary passengers seemed to be terrified to see so many
well-dressed English speaking young people.
Conference itself was enlightening as usual and we got to see a bit
more of Pres Boyer who is still fantastic. After we finished I got the
district set up on their trip back to Bonn and sent them off with the
German ZL as I stuck around with Elder A. He's very professional and
takes missionary work very seriously. He also speaks 24/7 German
despite being from Utah. It's a daunting task to speak German all day
and night but it was easier than I thought it would be. I may follow
his example in a few months, especially with the big jump my German
just made.
Our entire split was spent contacting and finding clever ways to find
people who would listen. I have trouble working with some missionaries
on the street but it went much smoother than I expected. We had some
success and found some interesting people. At one point we dropped by
a library to see if they had any "Mormon literature" and if we could
donate some. (Not a bad idea for those of you who are also
missionaries). After our very educational split we drove to Köln to
split back. Elder H. Had lots of stuff our German zone leader shared
with him. one of which is what he believes to be the longest correct
German word,
'
Try saying that five times fast. It totally beats Mary Poppins by a long shot.
Legend has it whomever can play it in a game of scrabble wins all
scrabble games forever.
And if any of you can successfully translate it you'll get lots of
German brownie points.
Otherwise this week was simply lots of lessons learned and lots of
German spoken.
We also went out to Köln for the fourth time this week on Pday to
celebrate a birthday for one of the Sisters. We went up the massive
cathedrals tower, took some photos, and went shopping at the cheapest
clothing store in Germany. All around an interesting week.
Bis nächste Woche,
Liebe Grüße -Elder Fuller
Can you spot our favorite German missionary?! |
How is it that this sunflower is bigger than Elder H. head?! Gute German soil, ja! |
Always thinking of his brother in Africa. |
